Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!

  • This year, I will be using Remind 101 which is a text messaging app. Updates will be sent via Remind 101 and posted here on the blog.   • Parent Meeting – Thursday, August 31 at 6:30PM in the John Greer band room. I encourage everyone to attend, but please notify me if you are unable to attend.
  • Also, a reminder that 5th and 6th grade students will continue to be in a band together. I will explain the reasoning for this at the parent meeting, or I’d be happy to meet with you if you’d prefer.
  • Rehearsals will be in the John Greer band room from 7:30-8:15 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. These rehearsals begin September 13. There will be a shuttle provided to take 6th grade students to the middle school after rehearsal.
  • Finally, band lessons begin this week. These are during the school day. Fifth grade will have their first lesson on Wednesday, August 23 (in the JG band room) and sixth grade will have their first lesson on Friday, August 25 (in the High School band room).

Thank You and Reminders

Thank you for a fantastic school year! The sixth grade band students are done with band for the school year. Fifth grade band members have one more performance on Friday, May 26.

For all fifth grade band members, we will have rehearsals on:

  • Wednesday, May 17
  • Friday, May 19
  • Monday, May 22
  • Wednesday, May 24
  • Friday, May 26

Fifth grade band members will perform for the 6th grade awards ceremony on Friday, May 26. The ceremony begins at 12:30. Students should look nice (no gym shorts or sweatpants).

Reminders for Week of May 8

Tuesday, May 9 – Spring Concert – 7:00PM – John Greer gym. Report to the JG library at 6:30. Wear black pants, sock, and shoes and white top. Boys wear black bow-tie.

Wednesday, May 10 – Spring Tour – John Greer gym. Wear purple Cornjerker music shirt and jeans. Report to the band room at 7:30AM. Performances begin at 8:45 and 9:45.

Thursday, May 11 – Jazz Band at 7:30AM for interested 6th graders – JG band room. This is a recruitment rehearsal for middle school jazz band. Bring instruments.

Friday, May 12 – Rehearsal at 7:30AM – no instruments needed. Watching a video of the concert/end of year wrap-up. Last rehearsal for 6th grade students.

 

Business Expo – Saturday, March 11

This is a reminder that the band will be performing at the WHPO Business Expo THIS Saturday, March 11. This is a required performance unless I have received a note with the reason for the student’s absence.

Time: Report to the Civic Center at 10:00am. We perform at 10:15.

Performance Attire: Cornjerker shirt (or any other clean and neat top), jeans, closed-toed shoes.

Percussionists: Report to the John Greer band room at 9:15 to load equipment.

 

Hoopeston Area Music Boosters Fundraiser Reminder

This a reminder that the Hoopeston Area Music Boosters are hosting their third annual silent auction THIS Saturday, November 12 in the high school gym. Information was sent home with students and here is the link to that handout: Music Booster Auction Information.

Ways to be involved:

  1. Band students are performing at 11:45. All students should plan to attend unless prior arrangements are made.
  2. The JG band, chorus, and the Cadet Band are having a cake-walk during the event. If you signed up to donate a cake or cupcakes, please deliver them to the JG band room by 3:00pm on Friday, Nov. 11 or between 10:00-10:30 on Saturday, Nov. 12.
  3. If you signed up to work the cake walk, please arrive on time. If you need a reminder of the time you signed up for, please contact me.
  4. Attend the auction! Preview begins at 10:30 and bidding begins at 11:00. There will be carnival type games for children (and adults!) and an inflatable obstacle course. There will also be concessions. Tickets are required for games, the obstacle course, and concessions. Tickets are $1 each. Of course, there will be students performing as well! This will be held in the High School Gym from 10:30am-1:00pm on Saturday, November 12.

Hoopeston Area Music Booster Fundraiser

The Hoopeston Area Music Boosters are hosting their third annual silent auction on Saturday, November 12 in the high school gym. Information was sent home with students last week and here is the link to that handout: Music Booster Auction Information.

  3. Donate an item for the silent auction. Please contact Mrs. Mandel, Miss Ferguson, or music booster president Ashley Beauvois if interested.
